IP Betrayer is a simple tool to find out your true IP address. Each networked computer has an IP address. You can compare an IP address with a phone number: Before you can call someone you need to know his number first. The same story goes for network communications.
You can see your own IP address by typing the command 'ipconfig' in a DOS window. There is one problem though: DOS will tell you the IP address of your network card. This is fine if you are connected to the Internet directly. But many people aren't connected to the Internet directly: all their network traffic goes through a home router first. Only this router is directly connected to the Internet. This router receives an IP address from your Internet provider. But your computer - or the computer of your home members - is getting an IP address from your router. These addresses are called private addresses. They are not unique in the world. Your neighbour might have the same private IP address on his computer.
IP Betrayer will reveal your true IP address. With this I mean the address a remote host/computer would see when you are trying to connect with it.
After you launch IP betrayer it will add an icon in your system tray. This is the area next to your Windows clock. Simply double click the icon to copy your true IP address to the windows clip board. Now you can paste the IP address as a text in other applications like word, notepad, ...
You can also see your true IP address if you move the mouse over the icon in the system tray. The address will then appear in a tool-tip-text.
IP Betrayer sends a HTTP request for 'http://www.bvsystems.be/tools/ip.php'. This page answer IP betrayer the used IP address for the HTTP request. It does not matter if you are using a proxy server or not. IP Betrayer always answers with your true IP address.
For many people IP betrayer won't be very usefull. The tool becomes interesting if you are running a little server on your computer.
IP Betrayer retrieves you IP address by accessing the webpage http://www.bvsystems.be/tools/ip.php. This page only returns your IP address. The returned addresses are not collected in any way. [view ip.php source code].
